Rita is a mother of two who is slowly recovering from being abused by her ex-husband, Paul. Debra saved her on the domestic violence call and introduced her to Dexter. He is glad to meet a woman who doesn't want to have sex, since he describes "every time I have sex with a woman she sees me for what I really am, empty".
